I’m gonna go ahead and be cliche and say, “I can’t believe half the year has flown by. Where does time go!?”
We’ve been enjoying summer break (it’s CTB’s first official one since he started school!) with tons of food and fun in the sun (and occasional fog). Here’s a little recap of some of our favorite moments:
- Intuitive cooking at home -
I’ve talked about this concept in the past and it’s something I’ve enjoyed doing more as I’ve gotten older. When I first experimented with cooking, I usually relied on a recipe to help guide me through the process. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that as it has helped shape my cooking style throughout the years. However, my favorite way to cook at home is just trusting my intuition. I usually have an idea of the direction I want to go with what I’m making (90% of the the time I’m winging it with random fridge and pantry bits with an active toddler at my hip) and I just let my mind take over. Wes has told me countless times that some of his absolute favorite dishes I make are a result of efficient experimentation. Here are some of the random dishes I threw together recently (some more exciting than others):

- Eating after recipe testing is the best thing -
We’ve been hard at work testing recipes and filming new videos for y’all. Sometimes we end up making more food than we want but it just makes for really yummy leftovers the next day!

KBBQ at home is one of favorite ways to eat. We were eager to try out this beautiful Teppanyaki electric grill gifted from Balmuda. The char on it was incredible—we’re so excited to cook on it more! Check out the reel here.

- Sometimes you just gotta go out to eat -
There comes a point where I can no longer cook anymore and need to eat out or I’ll lose it. (Anyone else?) In those cases, we like to explore new spots from our bookmarks as well as old favorites.
We were in the area and wanted to try out this Mexican spot, Cielito Lindo, known for their breakfast burritos and quesabirria. We shared the quesabirria (enough for 2 people) and really enjoyed it. Super flavorful and loved the crunch!
Another day, we were craving something comforting and familiar so we turned to one of our favorite claypot rice restaurants, Taisan Huakee. We always order the yellow eel + Chinese cured meats clay pot as well as their chive stir fry. Highly recommend!

Anyway, we hope you are having a lovely summer so far and are eating well! We have some exciting food and fun coming your way including our glamping + camping trips, staycation in wine country, and more recipes. Thank you for being a part of the CTA fam. <3
